“Light used to be faster than sound, until these people came along.” (Hamilton Spectator)
The Borealis String Quartet’s energy, artistry and charm have made it an audience favourite at home and around the world and it’s great to have this foursome back with a program that includes works by Arvo Pärt and Canada’s Kelly-Marie Murphy. A concert highlight will have Australian didgeridoo master William Barton joining the quartet in a work that embeds the flavour of the Australian outback in a Western chamber music idiom. String Quartet No. 12 (from Ubirr) is by Australia’s most respected classical composer, Peter Sculthorpe, who wrote the piece expressly for Barton.
Barton also performs August 12 – 14 and August 15
